Energy Resilience
This residence is outfitted with a comprehensive
array of energy optimization features. With careful energy use over the
course of a year, this house can be "net zero" in terms of grid electricity
usage. (In practice, the energy +/- comes down to using the dryer 100%
of the time vs. line drying when possible.) Perhaps more importantly,
in a power outage, refrigerators, freezers, security systems, and other
critical services keep on running, with the sun and the wood stove providing
heat. With proper energy management and a little cooperation from the
sun, this house can endure a substantial power outage.
