Pump Houses
The setup at the main cistern complex offers
turn-of-a-valve watering from any one of the four cisterns. The
pump for each of the three cistern systems is protected by a pump
house made of zero-maintenance materials—Trex and metal roofing
with 30-year paint. Each pump house includes an electrical outlet
and a hose reel for watering nearby plants and garden beds.

Roofwashers
All cisterns are fed by various sections of the
2200-sqft metal roof. The water flows from downspouts into roofwashers,
which act as 'first flush' filter for the rainwater coming off the
roof, trapping the small amount of dead bugs, bird poops, and dust
that collects on any roof, greatly improving the quality of the
water entering the cisterns and practically eliminating the need
for routine sediment cleanout in the cisterns.

Roofwasher Diverter Mechanism
The roofwashers feature a custom high-capacity
design, maximizing filtering and allowing the roofwashers to serve
as rainbarrels at the same time.

Remote Rainwater Hose Bibbs and Electrical Outlets
From the main cistern pump house, pipes run underground
to hose bibbs at strategic locations near the further-out garden
beds. This reduces the need to drag hoses around and greatly improves
the ease of watering in general. Most of the remote rainwater hose
bibb locations also have electrical outlets, providing a convenient
web of remote electricity around the property's garden spaces.
