WHY SOME STUDENTS TAKE A YEAR OFF FROM COLLEGE: |
PHIL: "It's part of my long-range Worry The Parents plan." |
BILL: "I was starting to get too brainy to hang out with my old high-school buddies." |
JILL: "Instead of wasting my parents' money on another year of tuition, I want to waste their money on a year of touring Europe." |

"I'm planning to take the next two semesters off from college. I just can't handle the constant grind of studying anymore, and the constant grind of working somehow seems more appealing."

“Pencil Thin Mustache” – Jimmy Buffett, from the album Living and Dying in 3/4 Time |

They send you off to college,
Try to gain a little knowledge,
But all you want to do is learn how to score.

Review: Jimmy Buffett started out writing and performing folk-based rock songs, went through a spell of country-tinged rock, and finally settled comfortably into the mainstay of his career, "island rock." Living and Dying in 3/4 Time is from the middle of those three periods. It features Buffett enjoying vicarious explorations of lives and lifestyles. "Pencil Thin Mustache" and the hit "Come Monday" are the standout songs on the album, with other solid tunes including "Ringling, Ringling," "Brand New Country Star," "Saxophones" and the excellent "Brahma Fear." Originally released in 1974, Living and Dying is still great listening three decades later.
