LYRICS FROM "PENCIL THIN MUSTACHE"
They send you off to college,
Try to gain a little knowledge,
But all you want to do is learn how to score.

Album Review: Jimmy Buffett started out writing and performing folk-based rock songs, went through a spell of country-tinged rock, and finally settled comfortably into the mainstay of his career, "island rock." Living and Dying in 3/4 Time is from the middle of those three periods. It features Buffett enjoying vicarious explorations of lives and lifestyles. "Pencil Thin Mustache" and the hit "Come Monday" are the standout songs on the album, with other solid tunes including "Ringling, Ringling," "Brand New Country Star," "Saxophones" and the excellent "Brahma Fear." Originally released in 1974, Living and Dying is still great listening three decades later.
