LYRICS FROM "THINKING OF YOU"
Something inside of me is taking a hold each day;
Something inside of me is making me feel this way;
Whenever you're near me, you've got me thinking of you.
Something about your eyes won't let me look away;
Something about your smile that's making it hard to say,
Whenever you're near me, you've got me thinking of you . . .

Album Review: Loggins and Messina, who had their 15 minutes of fame in the pop and album-rock world of the 1970s, did not have a huge number of great albums. But there were three LPs that were absolute gems: Motherlode; Sittin' In; and this one, Loggins and Messina. The music is "country/folk meets singer-songwriter pop meets jazzy cool and soft rock." One of the big songs from this self-titled Loggins and Messina album was "Thinking of You,"
a mild hit in the 1970s that featured a lilting melody and romantic lyrics—a song that is uplifting and positive without being sappy. The other hit from the album, which involved much less thinking, was "Your Mama Don't Dance (and Your Daddy Don't Rock and Roll)," a hit that was so big that it still occasionally gets radio airtime. But this album
went far beyond just two hit singles. It is packed full of inventive melodies and great lyrics. "Holiday Hotel" tells us of jealously and unfortunate circumstances in an incredibly upbeat, fun song. "Golden Ribbons" and the epic "Angry Eyes" are the more along the lines of progressive pop songs, each featuring musical interludes with varied
instrumentation and exploratory folk-jazz melodies. There are even great little ditties like "Long Tail Cat" to bring us a true down-home feeling. The three great Loggins and Messina albums are likely to appeal to varying degrees to different listeners. This one strikes a mix between light country, progressive folk, and pop-rock. With consummate musicians/songwriters like Loggins and Messina, that unlikely mix works like a charm.
