The Turtles

Album: Solid Zinc: The Turtles Anthology Category: Rock/Pop We are but an island in an ocean; ... from the song: “Earth Anthem” |
|
REVIEW The song "Earth Anthem" was penned by songwriter Bill Martin in the mid-1960s. It first got noticed when the Turtles recorded it and included it on their album "Battle of the Bands." This classic environmental-spiritual song has been covered by a number of artists, including Dan Fogelberg, who sang it in 1980 at the 'No Nukes' concert in Washington, D.C., on the Capitol steps. As for the rest of Solid Zinc, it's a double-CD packed with an amazing number of great Turtles tunes. Most fans of 1960s pop know that the Turtles had a slew of hits: "You Baby" ... "Happy Together" ... "She'd Rather Be With Me" ... "She's My Girl" ... "Elenore" ... "You Showed Me" ... What most people don't know is that even their non-hits were usually first-class songs. The should-have-been hits include upbeat ditties like "Makin' My Mind Up"; lush pop gems like "Sound Asleep" and "Is It Any Wonder?"; and the amazingly melodic "Me About You" and "You Know What I Mean". On this jam-packed double set, you get the hits AND the lesser-known greats! MP3 Options on Amazon.com: Or check out the CD at Amazon.com |
