“Fire at Midnight” – Jethro Tull, from the album Songs From the Wood |
|
|
Go upstairs... take off your makeup;
Fold your clothes neatly away.
Me, I'll sit and write this love song,
As I all too seldom do;
Build a little fire this midnight—
It's good to be back home with you.

Review: Step back a few hundred years with Jethro Tull as they offer up a rock portrayal of pre-industrial Celtic life. With tunes that are festively spiced-up by the use of traditional instruments like the penny whistle but are still girded by the gutsy rock sound that made Tull famous, Songs From the Wood is an album that gives us exactly what the title promises: We spend time walking on "Velvet Green" with the fetching "Hunting Girl," share a "Cup of Wonder" with the "Whistler," and sit around the "Fire at Midnight" to hear the telling of the myth of the "Jack-in-the-Green." This is not Jethro Tull's only attempt at a concept album, but it's one of their best.

A very sharp clip that fast forwards a few years into the future, when robots may have accumulated a bit too much control over us. There's also a metaphor here for people's blithe acceptance of increasingly totalitarian states run by humans, but just on its roboty merits, this is very funny. From The Onion. Go there
