Phil Manzanera – “Hot Spot” – Lyrics/Video
(Nuclear Music Video)
Hot Spot is a particularly stark juxtaposition of our modern distractions—in this case, a nightclub—with the consequences of leaving the reigns of power in the hands of madmen who have the keys to the nukes and other weapons of mass destruction. The video below, unfortunately, is just random scenes that have little to do with the theme of the song.
The correct Hot Spot lyrics appear below—at least they're as correct as I could get them, with still-questionable lyrics in red. Even with that limitation, these are by far the most accurate lyrics for Hot Spot on the web. Most web lyrics for Hot Spot have some laughably bad errors.
I just drove in to town today
To sample the flesh pots,
And all the girls I talk to say
"We need help at the hot spot."
I say "Well, I think I got the help you seek";
Been deep-fishing all through the week,
And I've never been a radio freak,
So you can teach me the latest dancing, darling.
Come on, let's go where the night sky breaks;
We've got noise at a thousand watts,
Where the bass vibrations make the building shake,
And everybody's dancing, dancing at the hot spot.
It's a wildfire sensation;
You've just got to know,
The neon radiation
Makes your body glow.
My viscount told me I'm a lazy dog
'Cause I dig to go cruising;
And I was riding high on the hog
'Til I saw what she was using.
I said "Hey, baby what you need the needle for?"
She said, "It used to be illegal, now it's a law!
We're all shooting atropine to make damn sure,
Everyday since they started up the third world war..."
Let's go where the night sky breaks,
With your flame and your bear-skin rugs,
Where the mountain gods make the buildings quake
And everybody's burning, burning at the hot spot.
It's a hellfire creation;
Nobody wants to know—
The neutron radiation
Makes your body glow.
I said, "Man, I read about this in a magazine;
But I'm not prepared,
I can't stand what I'm seeing;
There's no fun on the disco scene,
And there's no future in America's dream."
Oh no, don't go where the night sky breaks,
Where the white sun rises at midnight,
And there's a heatwave on that makes the buildings shake,
And everybody's dying, dying at the hot spot.
It's a wildfire sensation;
You don't need to know,
The neon radiation
Makes your body glow.
It makes your body glow
At the hot spot...

Debate: Should Nuclear Energy Be Expanded to Help Create a More Sustainable Future? —
Given the seriousness of the climate challenge—of the need to get to a zero-carbon future—does nuclear need to play an expanded role in the world's energy matrix? This was the question that Hofstra University posed to a debate panel in late 2014. Arnie Gundersen of Fairewinds was among the debaters who discussed the environmental, fiscal, and policy issues pertaining to the expansion of nuclear energy.

Solar EMP—Beautiful Skies with Devastating Repercussions —
Sometimes the most beautiful natural phenomena can have devastating consequences. When the sun ejects hot charged particles into space, the Northern Lights are created here on Earth. Occasionally, the sun erupts with such huge quantities of particles—a coronoal mass ejection—that electronics and electrical grids can be damaged. Mat Stein and Arnie Gundersen discuss the dangers to our electrical systems and nuclear power plants worldwide from a large coronal mass ejection.

Want to Kill Nuclear? Get Solar —
Arnie Gundersen updates us on Fukushima-related issues as well as the cozy relationship between the US Nuclear Regulatory Agency and the nuclear power industry, with safety and sensibility being routinely sacrified. Gundersen also says that those who want to hasten the demise of nuclear power should install solar panels, which produce their power during peak-load times. Peak-load times are the only times nuclear power plants make money. Deprive them of that, and (maybe) they will be driven to closure by poor economics.
